Eschewing the tactical approach and virtually unlimited options for character builds of its predecessor, with Guild Wars 2 ArenaNet opted for a more streamlined, traditional MMORPG route, focusing on action, open world events, social interaction and simplified, fast-paced combat. Being simpler and more user-friendly than the original Guild Wars, which was aimed at a niche market, the sequel drew in larger crowds, but at the same time the new approach alienated a huge portion of the old player base. Still, Guild Wars 2 has enough original content to satisfy both casual and hardcore players alike, with a vast world to be explored, multiple instances and different PvP modes. Guild Wars 2 presented the concept of a "living story", which comprises of several moderately large content updates during a year, although a single full-scale expansion (Heart of Thorns, 2015) has been released so far, introducing an entire new character class and further options for fleshing out the existing ones.
